Mission Impossible: Erasing the Seventies

Forty years ago the entire interior of this turn of the century Arts and Crafts shingle-style house was gutted and replaced by a modern seventies design. All that remained among the brushed chrome and plate glass was the original hand carved newel post and balustrade in the front hall. The current renovation was guided by careful investigation into the structure’s past elegance. The result was a stylish, subtly contemporary interpretation of the home’s original design. The completed job was a perfect fit to the original house, so natural that it was hard to believe it was a down-to-the studs restoration.
